Maggie Valley is a popular tourist destination, and retirement area. Primarily due its peaceful, quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Maggie Valley NC Maggie Valley NC is best known for it’s now closed Ghost Town in the Sky amusement park. During the 60s and 70s, people from all over the world flocked to Maggie Valley to not only visit the Smoky Mountains, but to also visit Ghost Town in the Sky, which opened on May 1, 1961, and became one of most popular tourist attractions in Western North Carolina. Today, Maggie Valley remains a popular tourist destination, but the now closed and for sale Ghost Town in the Sky is no longer the main attraction. Maggie Valley attracts visitors worldwide due to it’s close proximity to many of the wonderful and fun things to see and do in Western NC. Maggie Valley NC is also full of family owned, and unique stores, restaurants, and attractions. Maggie Valley NC is located about 40 minutes west of Asheville NC, just a few minutes off I-40. Maggie Valley is very close to nearby Waynesville NC, and sits just outside the Great SMoky Mountains National Park, and just off The Blue Ridge Parkway. Things to Do In Maggie Valley NC Soco Falls, just a short drive outside of Maggie Valley Maggie Valley NC is one the best destinations and towns in Western NC due to being central to nearly all of the great and fun things to do in Western NC, including: The Blue Ridge Parkway, and specifically Waterrock Knob, which is just a few minutes away. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park, right next to Maggie Valley – Cataloochee Valley is a very pretty and historic area to visit. More than 15 waterfalls all within a hours drive of Maggie, and one of the most beautiful, Soco Falls, that is just minutes away. Take a dip in one the many nearby Swimming Holes. Hundreds of nearby hiking trails in both Pisgah National Forest and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Attend one the awesome events at the Maggie Valley Festival Grounds. Attractions including the world famous, Wheels of Time museum, Cataloochee Ski Resort, Cataloochee Ranch and many more. Harrah’s Casino is a short and scenic drive over the mountain to Cherokee.
